General Studies
At ElRay Jewish Academy, our Kindergarten and First Grade General Studies program is designed to meet and exceed the California Department of Education’s standards, providing students with a strong foundation in core academic areas while fostering a love of learning.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Students develop early reading and writing skills through a balanced literacy approach, emphasizing phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and expressive writing. Students learn to listen critically, speak clearly, and engage with literature.

SCIENCE
Through hands-on exploration and inquiry-based activities, students investigate life sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, and simple engineering concepts. Emphasis is placed on observation, questioning, and experimentation.


MATHEMATICS
The math curriculum focuses on foundational skills in number sense, operations, measurement, geometry, and problem-solving. Students build fluency with addition and subtraction concepts and begin to apply mathematical thinking to real-world situations.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Students are introduced to community roles, historical figures, basic geography, and cultural traditions. Learning focuses on understanding self, family, school, and broader community life, promoting civic responsibility and awareness.
SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL):
Integrated throughout the day, SEL instruction fosters skills in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship-building, and responsible decision-making, ensuring students are equipped for both academic and personal success.
